What is Gestalt Therapy?
Gestalt Therapy invites personal growth through increased self-awareness and acceptance. It emphasizes the importance of meeting ourselves where we are in the present moment, recognizing that true transformation happens not by forcing change but by meeting ourselves exactly where we are. It’s particularly helpful for anyone feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected (from themselves or others). Instead of merely "fixing" symptoms, Gestalt Therapy views behaviours as creative adaptations to challenging circumstances, offering a compassionate understanding of how we have survived life's difficulties.
Through this process, we can explore how past experiences shape our present, helping us release their hold and create space for new possibilities. A key aspect of Gestalt work involves examining the parts of ourselves we may have disowned in the pursuit of safety or belonging, fostering a sense of reintegration and wholeness. The approach is inherently somatic, meaning the therapist includes the body as part of the process, making space for wisdom and insights we may have overlooked or suppressed. The therapy room serves as a safe environment for experimentation and exploration of new ways of being, whether in relation to ourselves or others. Rather than providing prescriptive solutions, the therapist acts as a supportive guide, meeting clients with curiosity and care. In the end, Gestalt Therapy is more than just therapy. It’s about learning to live fully—by accepting yourself, building honest connections, and embracing each moment as it comes.
